A great volunteer opportunity!

Are you energetic? Love children? Love the Oxford Farmer’s Market Uptown?
If so, perhaps you can help!

We are looking for volunteers to assist with Sprout programs. Time commitment is flexible, varying between 2 and 4 hours on the Saturday of your choice. This is a great opportunity for teens looking for community service hours or a great resume builder for young education majors.

Email Market Council at info@OxfordFarmersMarket.com to inquire about how you can help the Sprouts program continue to grow!

Children Gardeners from the Community Arts Center Visit the Market

We had such a great time at the market and the students can’t wait to come again! Even in the rain they enjoyed getting flowers, looking at all the herbs and meeting the farmers. For snack, we got to enjoy fudge, brownies, ginger snaps, and some cinnamon rolls. As the summer progresses we hope to have a booth at the market to sell some wonderful salsa and cut flowers. Opening Day Fun

Visitors to “Opening Day” at the Oxford Farmers Market Uptown (OFMU) Saturday, May 2, were treated to delicacies prepared from market vendors’ products by Chef Joel Parks – washed down with salubrious sips of apple cider from Downing Fruit Farm.

Scavenger hunts around the market, on bingo cards, were enjoyed by our young “sprouts” members. (check out our new sunny-yellow “sprouts” aprons).

Sweet music was provided by Warren Waldron (fiddle), Amy Clay (banjo), John Ford Clay (guitar), and Karl Reiff (bass).

Spoon/fork holder courtesy of market ceramic artist, J. Harris. Blue and yellow market bags are a premium for those who become market members – and they hold lots of produce! – so, join us NOW to receive yours!

This Place Matters

The National Trust is encouraging groups who support historic preservation to send in a photo, which they will put on their website for the May, 2009 Preservation Month. What better place to have a photo taken than at the market with the City of Oxford in background. We do support this effort to raise public awareness about the importance of historic preservation in Oxford. Thank you to Prue Dana and everyone else with the City that stopped by for the photo! Local Dairy goats provide healthly farm products for Oxford Farmers Market Uptown…

Owen (grandson of Debra Bowles) relaxed in the market crowd while tending one of this year’s baby goats born at Artistry Farm, Oxford OH. Owen’s time spent caring for the goat kid during market is barter for payment of the kid, which he will show at the Union County 4-H Fair in Liberty IN end of July. Meanwhile the baby goat’s mother is providing milk for not only the kid goat, but also goat cheese and goatmilk soaps which Debra sells at OFMU.
